Submissions

Be part of IFoRE ’22! Sigma Xi invites submissions for a broad range of conference components, including professional symposia, student presentations, exhibitors, sponsors, and participation in the STEM Art & Film Festival. IFoRE is an international gathering of researchers, ethicists, students, educators, communicators, and the public to connect and examine what it means to conduct ethical, responsible, trustworthy, and high-impact research.

Key Thought Sessions

Professionals (including postdocs) and students are invited to submit abstract proposals for thematic and mission-related Key Thought sessions, which include symposia, panel discussions, individual presentations, and workshops. All scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, ethicists, artists, filmmakers, educators, and communicators worldwide are encouraged to submit proposals in these categories, which will be reviewed and competitively selected by a panel of experts on a rolling basis.

Key Thought sessions based on this this year’s theme of Science Convergence in an Inclusive & Diverse World are encouraged. Your Key Thought session should address convergence research, which is a means of solving vexing research problems, particularly complex problems focusing on societal needs, and/or the challenges and opportunities of engaging in diverse, equitable, and inclusive research practices. Convergence research entails integrating knowledge, methods, and expertise from different disciplines and forming novel frameworks to catalyze scientific discovery and innovation. Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are principles that, when successfully followed, can remove systemic barriers and biases enabling all individuals to have equal opportunity to participate and contribute to the research enterprise. We will be exploring how both convergence research and DEI principles are means toward achieving research excellence.

PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS

Non-student research professionals from academia, industry, or government are invited to showcase their research at IFoRE through oral and poster presentations. Submissions are encouraged for individual, professional research presentations that exhibit or demonstrate excellence through one or more of the following:

  • Cutting edge research

  • Innovative methods for addressing key scientific or engineering questions

  • High-quality research with broad scientific, engineering, or societal impact

  • Projects that exemplify collaborations or contributions from diverse research talent and expertise

  • Results from interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, or convergence collaborations.

Research presentation proposals will be reviewed and competitively selected by a panel of experts on a rolling basis.

Student Research Presentations

Sigma Xi invites high school, undergraduate, and graduate students to submit proposals for oral and poster presentations for the Student Summit at IFoRE. Student research presentations will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges. Students may present in-person or virtually. In-person presentations will be eligible to receive awards, including monetary prizes and Society membership, which will be presented during the IFoRE Saturday evening banquet, awards, and induction ceremony.

STEM Art & Film Festival

Artists, filmmakers, and communicators are invited to submit entries for participation in the STEM Art & Film Festival. Submissions can include all forms of visual arts, scripted films, documentaries, animations, or performance art. Entries should be artwork that is based on or inspired by one or multiple disciplines of science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM).

Exhibitors & Sponsors

IFoRE offers a variety of opportunities to promote your organization and showcase your brand to thousands of the world’s preeminent scientists, engineers, thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and emergent talent. By becoming one of Sigma Xi’s exclusive conference sponsors, you will have the opportunity to express your commitment to excellence in scientific research and show your support for the next generation of problem solvers. Exhibitors at our College, Graduate School, and Jobs Fair will be able to showcase their programs to top tier students and the next generation of great scientific researchers.

Membership in Sigma Xi is not required for contributing to or attending IFoRE. Contributed content will primarily be scheduled, either virtually or in-person, for November 4, 5, or 6, 2022. Select proposals may be invited to occur (virtually) prior to or after the main conference dates, in accordance with the contributor’s preferences.
