Summary: Scientific advances have improved lives through technology and more reliable decision making. But to better serve society the research enterprise needs to optimize its means of achieving excellence and trustworthiness. Efforts to improve the integrity and reliability of scientific research have resulted in complex systems of regulations and policies, not all of which have yielded the desired outcomes.

During this session, we will discuss the importance of the technical factors as well as the human elements that contribute to research excellence. From research design to science virtues, this wide-ranging panel discussion will explore approaches and methods designed to improve the overall health, quality, and effectiveness of the research enterprise.
